Bill Williams and Barbara Hale are husband and wife in real life, and the parents of William Katt, best known as The Greatest American Hero (1981).
The uniforms worn by the Explorer Scouts are accurate, including the cap badge and shoulder patches. They are still wearing the old-style eight-point cap that the LAPD had fazed out in 1969-70 in favor of the round cap that the police officers are wearing. Explorers wore khaki, and were not issued Explorer badges, for several more years.
Discussing how a case was solved, Reed says to Sgt. MacDonald "You just pressed his white Panama suit for him." This is almost certainly a reference to fictional detective Charlie Chan, famous for solving cases by following a chain of clues.
