One of the delights in watching this wonderful series is the opportunity to see actors when they were very young before they became famous. In this episode it's Billie Whitelaw. The episode plays like a sitcom or farce and is rather amusing. Robin is ambushed by the Sheriff's men and is rescued by a mysterious hooded archer who turns out to be a young woman named Brenda (Whitelaw). She turns out to be a sort of proto-feminist who has run away to avoid an arranged marriage. Out of gratitude Robin invites her back to the outlaw camp to keep her safe. The Merry Men take to her immediately, but she then reveals she believes in destiny and knew all along she was going to join the outlaws. She even has her own Lincoln-green outfit! Reluctantly Robin agrees to let her stay. However things backfire when she takes this as a marriage proposal. Friar Tuck's arrival convinces her that this again is destiny since he can marry them. Tuck delays her by posting a notice of the marriage on a tree. Telling her it has to stay there for three weeks. In the meantime Brenda robs Marian who then storms into the camp. Robin placates Marian until she sees the notice but they scheme to get Brenda's intended, Walter, to take more interest in wooing her. The plan succeeds when Walter is lured to Sherwood just as Brenda is being tied up as a. "test". Walter comes to her rescue and the outlaws scatter in mock terror. Brenda again sees this as destiny and at once wishes to become Walter's wife. Good fun and a bit outside the usuao story lines.
