The Ordeal

Edgar leaves the outlaws to visit his wife and child. Only to be accused of murder and facing a special brand of justice.

His arm would be placed in a boiling pot of water. If it blisters then he is guilty.

Robin Hood has to come to the village to save Edgar and find out who did kill Jack the wagoner. Robin knows it cannot be Edgar as he was at Sherwood Forest.

It does not take long for Robin to figure that the guilty party must be a villager with ties to the Sheriff of Nottingham. As some villagers have a negative view of outlaws which is surprising to Robin. Someone is stirring up trouble and Robin wants to ensure that Edgar gets a fair hearing.

Fingers being pointed, malicious accusations, a hearing that is rigged. This has to be from a blacklisted American writer. Indeed one of the Hollywood Ten, Ring Lardner Jr is now associated with writing this episode.
