Airwolf - Annie Oakley
Scarecrow-888 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I do still remain quite surprised that Airwolf made it for not only three but a fourth season. With the plot of "Annie Oakley", I just think the series was tired. Airwolf makes a brief, rather insignificant appearance at the very end. Good to see Art Hindle ("Black Christmas"; "The Brood"; "Porky's") as the chief antagonist, Stern, in possession of a F.I.R.M laser weapon after his crew kill those carrying it by truck to a destination interrupted. His wife, Louise (Tricia O'Neil, a mainstay on "Murder, She Wrote"), is the titular gun-slinging character, the operations manager of a traveling Old West show, in a custody battle with him over their son, Rex (Chris Hebert). ArchAngel needs String, Dom, and Caitlin to meet a snitch who is involved with Stern's team, turning on him with plans to inform the F.I.R.M of the whereabouts of the laser in exchange for a cool million. String, Dom, and Caitlin will disguise their identities as stunt folks looking for work on Louise's Annie show, so that String can converse with Slade (Reid Smith) on the location of the laser...but Slade is snuffed out before being able to do so, a staged accident in the barn his execution. Stern had his own plant, Leo (Barry Sattels), on Louise's staff, orchestrating "stunt accidents" in attempts to harm String (like the Gatling gun that "misfires"), perhaps responsible for Slade's demise. Highlights include Dom accidentally getting too physical in a punchout with String, including knocking him off a ledge, String showing off his Gatling gun skills, String (or his stuntman) in fisticuffs with Stern's thugs, String (or his stuntman) chasing after Stern (in the back of a speeding truck firing the laser at him) on motorcycle, and Stern hitting the right turbo of the Airwolf during the truck run to Mexico. The laser gets to blow things up, while there is a funny Annie show for an audience where she makes a fool out of Leo's Black Bart villain, using her gunshooting skills to bamboozle him until he falls into a horse water trough. String has a moment with Louise's boy, including an attempt to talk him out of dip-chewing. Nothing all that special about the episode, as it is pretty much a standalone story separate from anything all that important that usually involves the F.I.R.M.
