Daddy's Gone a Hunt'n

Donald P Bellisario was not shy into the dark side of Vietnam before it became fashionable after the release of Platoon. Even Magnum had a dark side to it when it first started as Magnum and his wartime friends rather damaged by their experience in Vietnam.

This second episode starts with Hawke getting a lecture from Marella, Archangel's new assistant about who the good guys and the bad guys are. Hawke gives a look that he sees the world in a shade of greys. A sign that he distrusts both the US government and The Firm.

Hawke has to go on a special mission at an air base to stop a suspected traitor from handing over an advanced military fighter over to the Russians. Santini gets on the act disguised as a janitor which he is not happy about as he has to hang around cleaning the male toilets. Then again considering his costume in the pilot episode, I thought it would please him.

The Russians have a Eurasian boy of about 12 years of age from Vietnam who could be the child of the suspected traitor and his wife. However Hawke discovers he also knew the boy's mother during the time she might had got pregnant.

There are some nice action sequences as Hawke takes on the task to take on the Russians and rescue the boy. The episode keeps the question of the boy's paternity rather up in the air.

A strong second episode, although I am not sure seeing Hawke wistfully looking over the lake while playing the cello.

Not bad!

Warning: Spoilers
Not bad. The cold war and Vietnam war experience was rolling on back in 84. Airwolf scripts follows the cold war theme. Daddy's Gone a Hunt'n has a child which look's like Hawke, and old Air Base experiences. A mix of the K G B and a mystery create a stew of a story. Good footage of military. There is an Airwolf show down with the Soviets, which makes Daddy's Gone a Hunt'n memorable. Dadddy's Gone a Hunt'n has cliches, and is formulated with the usual ending of all story lines coming together, but still a good episode. 6 stars.
