Can Harper disarm a weapon that wipes minds?
Tweekums29 July 2018
This episode opens with the crew of the Andromeda attempting to retrieve a weapon known as 'File D' from a Commonwealth ship... when they get there the weapon is gone and the crew are alive but appear to have no brain function. It emerges that File D is a device that wipes minds, potentially on a planetary scale and something triggered it aboard the ship. Worse than that is has been taken by a Nietzschean whose son has been taken hostage by his sister... she will exchange him for File D. Dylan doesn't want either of them to have it so works to solve the problem. Harper is to sneak in and defuse the device while the others break the son out of his captivity.

I think this might be my favourite episode of season four to date; the weapon is rather inventive and very dangerous and even though its trigger mechanism does seem a little unlikely it does serve to raise tensions as Harper tries to defuse it. The Nietzschean siblings are solid villains; not too over-the-top. The scene between Dylan and villainess Melea Voth was quite fun even if the way they played a game was somewhat cliché. Even now we are learning more about the main characters; here we learn that Trance Gemini can regulate her body temperature; something even here crewmates didn't know... presumably because the writers thought it was a good way to get around a problem in this episode and hadn't thought of it before! Harper can be irritating at times but here he takes a central role and Gordon Michael Woolvett is on good form making us believe his character is dealing with a dangerous situation that he must handle alone. Overall a solid episode that fans of the series should enjoy.
