The Alan Melvin Show?
Hitchcoc10 December 2019
Andy is short tempered and overworked. Barney pushes him into taking a vacation. He and Gomer will man the Sheriff's office. How could anything go wrong? Of course, the state police bring in a felon and they need to keep him over night. It's Alan Melvin again. It takes about five minutes for him to reach over, grab the key, and walk out the door while Barney and Gomer argue over some triviality. Why is the key on the wall? Anyway, it's up to Andy to restore order--again.

"What do you take us for?... A couple of idiots?"

Hard to think of 2 bigger idiots than Barney & Gomer as deputies. Has anybody received any academy training on Mayberry's force? Even Andy tells Gomer, "The key goes in-between the cells doors." At the prisoners arm reach.

So many classic scenes. I always liked when Allan Melvin scares Gomer with "boo". We see Allan Melvin using one of his classic cartoon voices when tied to the tree.

Don Knotts and Jim Nabors have a natural chemistry together. As will George Lindsey and Don Knotts.

A very good epilogue with Andy getting rid of Barney for a week. Fife misspelled never gets old.

It's up in the air if Barney gets paid for the impromptu vacation.
