Barney! Why'd You Throw That Tomato at Me?
Hitchcoc13 December 2019
I'm not sure why, but I remember this episode better than any other. Andy is about to take a detective's job in Raleigh. He intimates that Barney will become the next high Sheriff. Well, again we have an inciting incident, sending Barney into a tizzy of authority. The scene where he brings in his potential deputies is priceless, with him throwing a ripe tomato at Otis. But it doesn't take long to see the implications of Barney being fully in charge. I have one thing I've wondered about. Did they ever get that little kid's head out of the sewer drain?

Middle of the night robbery?
deblc-9133420 August 2021
Did anyone else find it odd that when Barney see up the fake robbery he called Andy who was sound asleep in bed as if it were the middle of the night? Yet Barney and the gang were all in the barber shop fully dressed as if it were the middle of the day?

Not as good as the Doppleganger

A friend told me many years ago that there was a twin for every episode of Andy Griffith. I laughed it off, but did start to notice similarities between plot lines of two episodes quite often. I searched "Sheriff for a Day" and while it is definitely not the same, the plot origins are. Andy takes a job for a possible new job, and Barney is in charge for a day. The other episode where Barney has the whole town in jail while Andy is gone must be better, as I see I gave it "9" stars. What I saw when watching this was, at least in the first 10 minutes, were a lot of corny jokes, not up to AGS standards. But it does grow on you.

Absolutely loaded with classic comedy

The deputy line up didn't work in a previous episode. Now with sitcom legends it was pure magic. The numbering, the tomato, the quick and the dead all some of TAGS best lines.

Always liked Mrs Jackson balling out Barney about numbskull Otis the crossing guard. Then, frazzled Aunt Bee joins in raising her voice ripping into Barney.

Great scene Goober describing his conspicuous robber. Floyd is hilarious describing his robber as shoving him "real hard" as only he can.

Funny epilogue ends one of TAGS best episodes.
