A messy little boy named Leon is seen twice. He never says anything but always eats a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Leon is played by Clint Howard, Ron Howard's younger brother. This was Clint's second TV appearance. It aired December 24, 1962.
Asa Breeney (Charles Thompson) carries "one of them old Teddy Roosevelt horse pistols." A horse pistol is a large holstered pistol formerly carried by horsemen.
In the epilogue, Andy reads the Mayberry Gazette. Its headline reads "BANK HOLD-UP FOILED HERE" with the subheading, "Sheriff Andy Taylor and Deputy Barney Fike [sic] Nip Robbery in the Bud." Throughout the series, Barney can often be heard saying that the best way to deal with a situation is to "nip it in the bud."
This is the second time Barney dresses as a woman.
