Opie is enamored with a cute little girl. He doesn't seem to be getting anywhere with her. He is moonstruck. Thelma Lou takes pity on him and begin to be a surrogate for the little girl. Opie gets the wrong idea and invades Barney's space. It's all pretty funny and quite precious. The little girl was pretty cute in an old fashioned way.

We see so many of Barney's bad character traits. Here we see child like jealousy. Him being such a baby makes for some funny scenes. Andy's talk to Opie "what you can do with a grown woman" is classic Andy Griffith storytelling. Very good epilogue with Barney putting his foot in his mouth.

We were all there at one time or another,like a girl & she doesn't seem to know your alive. So Opie thinks of everything to impress Karen a girl in his class at school.He does hand stands to impress her & wants to carry her books but nothing seems to help. So a talk with his dad & he asks how can he get Karen to like Him? just be yourself. Well Andy mentions to Barney about Opie & he tells Andy about Vicky Harms who he liked & would give her some of his ice cone. You know what she would do! Bit off the bottom of the cone & suck out all the syrup! Boy that made me made you can't trust a woman. One day Opie is outside the grocery store & Thelma Lou walks out & Opie is trying to impress Karen by doing handstands. So she asked Opie if he would carry her bags to her house & she will bake some cup cakes. Opie found a new Girl & Karen notices Opie lost interest in her. But Opie finds out a grown woman is alittle different fast & Barney gets upset because Opie seems to have stolen his girl. When Opie comes to his dad & ask what can you do with a grown woman? because Thelma Lou is his girl now. What a moment,of course Andy makes being with her is going shopping,going to her mothers house to visit all boring things you have to do,what! Opie says no bike riding or a cowboy movie no they like the other things better. But all ends well when Opie goes outside the jail & Karen is there, so they decide to go to the cowboy movie. Opie goes back in & says that Karen & him are going to a movie & could he break the news to Thelma Lou that he is seeing Karen now. No problem I think she will be OK with it. Young love wins over again.

This is a cute episode. Little Opie has a crush on Thelma Lou. One part shows how time have changed. Andy says to adult women never ride bicycles . Nowadays they do ride bikes. Opie has a funny line when he ask Andy "Pa, what CAN you do with a grown up woman?"

Karen is carrying 3 books. Opie has 1 book and a lunch box held by a leather strap. Kids today have backpacks weighted down like soldiers on a long march. Why? Better education today? No. In those days we kept our stuff in a DESK rather than carry everything to and from school. Ahh, progress.
