Angel and Cordy make a good point in this episode. Sex in the Buffyverse usually leads to badness. For instance, somebody could go evil and start wiping out the town. (See BTVS season two.) "Expecting" has Cordy sleeping with a guy and getting more than she bargained for. This episode has a pretty clear message to it. Namely, sex can be complicated, so make sure you really know who you're bringing home or you might wind up pregnant and alone in the big city. You could probably skip this episode and not miss a lot story wise. (Although, it will be referenced in season three.) But, it does have some really cute moments, so I recommend that you give it a shot.
"Expecting" revolves around Cordy going on date with her new boyfriend, Wilson. After a night of talking and dancing, they go back to her place and sleep together. The next morning Cordy wakes up nine months pregnant and the guy is nowhere to be found. Angel and Wes find her crying in her bedroom and promise to help her figure out what's going on. Wes takes Cordy to the OB-GYN while Angel goes looking for Wilson. It turns out that Wilson and his friends have done this to other girls, too. Cordy's friends are all hugely pregnant and Angel is more convinced than ever that a demon is behind this.
At the doctor's office, Cordy has an ultra sound. There are seven little somethings inside of her and she's beginning to act oddly. By the time Wes takes her back to Angel's, she's referring to them as her "babies." Wes and Angel think that Wilson and his buddies are surrogates for a demon's seed. The demon uses them to impregnate women and now its offspring are "talking" to Cordy, taking over her mind. Angel goes to find Wilson and beats information about the demon out of him. Meanwhile, Cordy knocks Wes out and escapes. She heads for a meeting with the demon. All the other pregnant women are there, too. Angel and Wes arrive and defeat the demon. The women are cured and Cordy realizes that Wes and Angel are the two people that she can trust most in the world.
There are some really fun parts in "Expecting." The scene with Cordy's friends meeting Wes and Angel is just hilarious. From Wes's excitement over hearing that Cordy's dating a guy named Wilson Chistopher, ("No! The ethno-archaeologist?" "No, the fashion photographer.") to Angel desperately trying to cover while Cordy has a vision, to the girl's thinking that Wes and Angel are dating... It's all really funny. And I love the scene of Wes and Cordy in the doctor's office. The look on Wes's face when he sees the demons on the ultra sound is especially great. And I just have to laugh when Cordy starts drinking Angel's jars of blood from the refrigerator. Angel stares at her, his face all scrunched up in an "ewww" sort of expression and he mutters, "I never realized how disgusting that is." Finally, I like Angel beating up all those guys who were in league with the demon. It's a real satisfying scene considering how much I hate them. Angel's such a sweetheart to Cordy and then he goes and just thrashes those sleazy jerks because they hurt her. Angel rocks.
On the down side, this is the first time that we know of Cordy's having sex and THAT'S the guy she chooses to be with? Why? This is the first time he's even mentioned. It seems kind of soon after Doyle's death for her to be moving on.
My favorite part of the episode: Wes and Angel breaking through a door, weighed down with weapons, searching for demon eggs... and bravely confronting a old couple in their Lazy-Boys.
