Second of two consecutive episodes where Wilberforce Humphries breaks the fourth wall.
This episode was written with the idea of giving Arthur English, who played Mr Harman, a chance of using his popular variety theatre character 'The Spiv' in the show. The Spiv appears in the character of Pa Gumby, an underworld gangster. Mollie Sugden as Mrs Slocombe pretends to be Mad Ma Gumby and John Inman, as Mr Humphries, masquerades as their step-son, Italian Tony, The Tooting Terror.
Michael Atwell, one of the burglars, would later play Kenny Beale, the brother of Pauline Fowler played by Wendy Richard(Miss Brahms) in the British soap EastEnders.
Paul Humpoletz, one of the burglars, appears in the sequel series Grace and Favour (also known as Are You Being Served? Again! (1992)) as Henry Heathcliff the sheep farmer.
