The title is the Japanese translation for Kamikaze, the suicide pilots.
The Japanese pilots' white headbands read "kamikaze" (divine wind) flanking the red sun.

Boyle starts to say "we were going to be called Boyington's Bastards" but was cut off by the Sheep because there was a padre present.
"Boyington's Bastards" was the original name of the real 214 Squadron when formed, but because the newspapers wouldn't print that in the newspaper...it was suggested to be called "Black Sheep" which meant the same thing.
