Larry Fields, the hotel marketing/advertising manager is played by episode writer Stanley Ralph Ross - who began his career as a marketing/advertising man.
At the end Banacek is approached by a man carrying a paper bag and asking for a light. After Banacek gives him a light, the man moves on and Jay mumbles, "Nah, it couldn't be." The man looks like the famous, reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes. Earlier in the show, the man who hired Banacek, Mr. Jonathan Jackson, sounded a lot like Howard Hughes, especially given the initials, J.J. vs. H.H. (Interestingly, George Peppard plays a Hughes-like character in a film almost a decade earlier called "The Carpetbaggers.")
When Linda Carsini (Margot Kidder) has her eyes closed and hears Banacek's voice, she asks him if he is Superman. Several years after this Kidder would land the role she is best remembered for, playing Lois Lane in the Superman movies.
Arnold Leeland's boss is a reclusive billionaire, who lives in the penthouse of the hotel he owns in Las Vegas, all of which would have reminded the viewer of the enigmatic Howard Hughes.
When Linda Carsini asks Banacek if he is like Liberace he makes it clear he isn't. At that time a TV character couldn't openly talk about someone being gay but they could make subtle allusions like this.
