"Asylum" finds Wojo involved in a serious diplomatic situation, as Russian musician Fioder Jininski (Ion Teodorescu) demands asylum in the US rather than be taken away by official attaché Andre Bulganov (Michael Panaieff), who has diplomatic immunity. Thinking this would make a good story, Harris takes notes throughout, convinced it can sell. In his second of five episodes, David Clennon plays Jeffrey Stevens, from the State Department, so new at his job with the Carter administration that he has no idea what to do. Jininsky asks Nick about the most difficult part of his test: "parallel parking!" Jack De Leon makes his fifth appearance as homosexual thief Marty Morrison, this time arrested for violating probation, carrying half an ounce of pot. Barney asks Nick about a phone call- Yemana: "possible missing husband." Barney: "how long has he been gone?" Yemana: "that was him on the phone! He was just thinking about it...he was wondering what kind of a head start he'd have!"
