This marks the first time that a villain was created for the series and had a completely original story written for them (while Zelda the Great was created for the series, her story was taken almost word-for-word from a 1965 comic book).
King Tut was created for the TV show and did not appear in a Batman comic book until 2009.
It is mentioned that King Tut's other personality is that of a meek Professor of Egyptology at Yale University, who after being hit on the head during a student riot, assumed the personality of King Tut. His name is never mentioned.
Victor Buono relished being cast on this series because he was encouraged to overact with as much hammy bombast as he liked. As such King Tut proved to be the most popular original recurring villain on the series and made more appearances than any other.
