The van that Nitro and Crocker travel in is labelled J. Olsen and Sons, an allusion to Jimmy Olsen photographer at the Daily Planet and friend of Superman.
Much of the plot of the episode bares resemblance to the March 1976 story from "Detective Comics" (Vol. 1) #457 titled, "There Is No Hope in Crime Alley" by Denny O'Neil and Dick Giordano.
Batman is told that Dr. Thompkins is at the corner of Finger and Broome. Likely a reference to Batman co-creator Bill Finger and DC Comics writer John Broome Bill Finger.
Leslie is referred to as "Ms. Thompkins" rather than "Dr. Thompkins" implying that the writers hadn't yet decided to make her a doctor.
