Roslin tells Zarek, "Don't worry, I won't kiss you," to which Zarek responds, "That's too bad, I shaved extra close this morning just so you could smack me." This exchange is an almost word-for-word quote of a famous exchange between George C. Scott and 'Michael Bates' in Patton (1970).
In the struggle on the floor of the bar, a beer bottle with the label "Hawryliw" is used by Lee to defend himself. 'Ken Hawryliw' is the property master for the production.
The term "cloud nine" is used to describe a wonderful and happy situation. In the 1950s the U.S. Weather Bureau assigned numerical designations to different types of clouds. The huge, fluffy cumulonimbus type was considered to be the most beautiful and therefore it received the highest designation, namely, "cloud nine". Starbuck mentions that the display of the sky, and the horizon in particular, is not very good. This is similar to the situation at Cloud Nine. It seems very nice but the situation is not wonderful.
