Another idiotic, "flat" episode without dimensions, twists nor turns.
imdb-2528824 June 2023
This is just idiotic. It's just flat. Everything points to the mother doing it, you expect the big twist at the end, that everyone, including the accused husband, is protecting the crazy mother but nope! No twists, no turns, just a flat script producing yet another idiotic and very flat episode without dimensions, nuances nor colors. Why watch it!? I don't know, it was just a waste of my time. The dead abused baby has been well overdone by now. The least they could have done is make the mother or stepsister the killer. But nope.

And there are some very dreadful closeups on Catherine's face which makes you wonder how was she ever cast for the part of "Beauty"!? It's downright ridiculous, with the horrid dark eyeliner they forgot to smudge plus white eyeliner on top of that, in a faint attempt to give her "big eyes". In the process, they forgot to pluck her unkempt eyebrows, or fill them in, since it was the Brooke Shields thick eyebrows era but at least, Brooke's were neat and beautiful, quite the opposite here. I guess they got her lips pumped (that was in its infancy back when, and done hush hush) and they figured "big lips is good enough to call her "Beauty"!" Not sure what Beast ever saw in her. She's miscast and very awkward in the part, what with getting the living daylights kicked out of her in every other episode.

Zero creativity, zero originality in this show. Please watch 1992 Forever Knight, the superior Canadian TV series. This is a cheap barebones for its future creation. I'm guessing they must have taken elements from here (the dropping from the ceiling in slow motion, Beast's subway riding is reminiscent of Nick's early season flying etc.) But, other than that, FK brings nuances to its intricate themes that leave you thinking long after the episode is done (which isn't the case with B&TB) plus insane production values, sorely lacking here. 3/10 for what it is, or fails to be.
