Bergerac crossed with Romancing the Stone
lawrenceconwayvulcan7 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
When Philippa Vale aka The Ice Maiden finds her life under threat from a thug demanding the she return a book that she has supposed to have stolen when in fact she is innocent she turns to Jim Bergerac for help. Together they discover that the book she is supposed stolen concerns details of the dealings of a far right terror group and it's esteemed backer. The pair then head into the dragon's den to get back the book and expose it's leader for he is. S.P.A.T.A is one of the most action packed episodes of Bergerac made, this clear in the climax when Jim and Philippa make their escape from the bad guy's liar on buggy's avoiding gunfire and ending in a freeze frame gun battle. John Nettles and Liza Goddard bounce off each other very well and David Calder makes for a very hiss-able bad guy. As the title of this review suggests there is a Romancing the Stone vibe to this episode. Some may like this while others may not, I am of the former view.

Philippa Vale (Liza Goddard) comes to Bergerac for help when a right-wing organization called S.P.A.R.T.A. threatens her.

S.P.A.R.T.A. is a good enough episode. Liza Goddard is charming as always and there's some nice location filming. The action sequence at the end is pretty badly staged. 3/5
