Without Jethro, I don't think the series would be as outrageous. Max Baer was funny as heck in this role. A natural.
The latest scandal; Jethro wants to be a five star general no less! Mr. Drysdale suggests a local military school called Hayvenhhurst, which has a lot less educational requirements than West Point.
Uncle Jed proudly declares, "Jethro. Your six grade education will finally pay off!"
Best lines absolutely go to Mr. Drysdale, as usual, trying every trick in the book to get Jethro in the door and please the Clampets, and using Miss Jane as the fall guy. Drysdale taking a nap in his office with dollar bills on his eyes is a tv classic. Would you expect anything else?
Super appearance by popular character John Hoyt, playing Colonel Hollis. Hoyt, in a long career, portrayed many officers, often German. It turns out Hayvenhurst is a military school for grade school students --and don't miss Jethro dressed up as a kid in black shorts? Must see TV. The school is also conveniently located next to the Clampett mansion, and the kids are using cap guns. Jed thinks the US Army is using the same guns???
100 percent Camp Comedy written by series writer and creator Paul Henning, who wrote nearly every episode of the show, or at least had a hand in it.
Why we love Jethro and the gang. SEASON 4 EPISODE 14 remastered/color (which was beautifully done).
Thank you to ME TV for so many memories.
