An elderly, frail man is brought into custody, accused of attempting to murder his wife, the man is happy to admit to what he's done.
The best episode for a while, this was genuinely one of the show's real highlights, fantastic from start to finish. Not a show that often makes you feel, I did shed a tear when Viv was shot, this however truly did move me, this was truly exceptional.
They're definitely trying to mix it up a bit, we've just had the new credits, here we get a prequel, and a very different episode, very much a character study, not a whodunnit or a typical cop show episode, this was very different.
Geoffrey Chater is awesome as Edward, it's a genuinely brilliant performance from the veteran actor, of course it was a beautifully written part, but he had to bring the character to life, and make him believable, he did that incredibly well.
The best of Sergeant Boyden, this was The Matt I remember, that final look, that was very meaningful.
Outstanding, 10/10.
