Bionic Woman vs The Martians
sambase-3877317 October 2021
I've always said that an extraordinary woman like the Bionic Woman should only be sent on extraordinary missions, not ordinary missions that can be done by an ordinary agent. Well, there's nothing ordinary about a Martian invasion! That doesn't happen every day, kids! So I liked the story right from the start. It's something worthy of our main character.

Turns out that beach locations in California not only attract sunbathers and and surfers, they also attract Martians! Who doesn't love the beach! But what's really going on here? Well, that's what our hero is going to try and find out. There is also a very persistent reporter who also wants to find out the same thing and he and the Bionic Woman intertwine their stories.

Okay, now for the special effects. Those are really, really bad even for the Seventies. Just dreadful. No wonder viewers started losing faith in this series. First, really bad ideas like having a Bionic Dog (ugh) and then lousy special effects. You have to give viewers more or they will take their eyeballs somewhere else.

Overall, it was a fun story with a few twists thrown it. I enjoyed it. Not great, but watchable.

Yep it's Martians.

Warning: Spoilers
There are spoilers in this review. First of all the beginning wasn't bad. Actually it was pretty good. We've got a UFO coming in and beams up two people with a bright light. So naturally it makes the news.

So Jamie naturally and her boss are interested in this UFO and trying to figure it out. As another reviewer stated the special effects are really lame. But it did have some nice California scenery. I should mention Jamie does go braless, and I must admit I had a second look at that. We also have a guy trying to investigate what's going on.

This is a story, that could have really been good. We could have had real Martians. Or we could have had the government with a UFO they found in the desert or something.

And another reviewer pointed out, even the special effects were kind of lame. But hey it's a good story overall.

Could have been so much better
prdeller7 July 2021
Like a lot of series 3 there are some germs of good ideas here and with a bit more work it could have been a much better story than it turned out. Thanks to Close Encounters of the Third Kind, UFOs and UFO hoaxes were a hit with the public at the time so a story that touches on those themes was probably inevitable. An episode that disappointed me I'm afraid as it doesn't come close to fulfilling it's potential. Even Lindsay Wagner seems to be struggling to muster much enthusiasm for this one. And even by the fairly low standards of seventies TV, the special effects in those episode are excruciatingly bad and cheapen and demean the whole thing. A great shame and hard to view this as anything other than a wasted opportunity.
