For the flying sequences, footage from Aces High (1976) was re-edited and dubbed over with the actors' voices.
Rowan Atkinson has a stutter, which causes him to struggle and consequently put more emphasis on the letter B. When Bob and Lord Flasheart are making the classic 'woof' noises, Blackadder was originally supposed to say, 'it's like Battersea Dog's Home in here.' However, he couldn't say the word 'Battersea,' so it was changed to 'Crufts.'
When Flashheart first appeared in Bells (1986), he ended up running away with Bob who was actually a girl in disguise. In this episode, his final scene ends with him and Bob (again, a girl in disguise) running off together.
Blackadder talks of the Germans' penchant for torture, mentioning that "their operas last several days". This is probably a reference to The Ring Cycle by Richard Wagner which consists of four operas, three of which clock in at well over four hours and were intended by their composer to be performed on consecutive days.
