Lorne Greene and Pernell Roberts are passengers on a stagecoach and between the
two of them prevent a holdup. two outlaw brothers are dead and the third taken
prisoner.
They take take coach into town and turn in the prisoner to sheriff Bruce Cabot once a reputed sheriff and town tamer, but has gone to seed.
A reporter Walter Brooke is along as another passenger and tries to make dime novel heroes of Ben and Adam. They get a cold rebuff, but Cabot is a lot more interested. Brooke is a veritable Iago who turns Cabot's head with dreams of glory past.
It reminds me a bit of when Ned Buntline spotted this prairie kid named William F. Cody and turned him into Buffalo Bill. It doesn't quite work out that wat for Cabot.
