Guy Williams makes the first of several appearances as visiting nephew Will Cartwright who's something of a roving vagabond. The problem is he's roving with the wrong crowd at late and in fact Lorne Greene gets a wire from a neighboring town that Williams has been killed in a gunfight.
Like Mark Twain though, the rumors of Will Cartwright's death are greatly exaggerated. He's playing dead because Arch Johnson wants him dead real bad and Williams switched identities with one of Johnson's gang. It's not just Williams being six feet under that Johnson wants. He's got an item on him that Johnson wants back very badly.
Williams stayed on for a few episodes and he and Pernell Roberts have a spirited rivalry in the future for the hand of one Virginia City girl. It's Williams who gets her later and rides into the sunrise with her. Otherwise she would have been another female fatality that always happens around the Cartwrights.
