Gin Rummy's feud with Riley in the car is a direct reference to Jules' (Samuel L. Jackson's) famous "Say what again!" speech during the interrogation of Brett (played by Frank Whaley) in the movie Pulp Fiction (1994).
The episode's plot is a loose allegory to the events of the Iraq war, which is referenced by Ed III and Rummy in the episode. This is especially apparent during the segment where Ed and Rummy pretend for the cop that the middle-eastern man has a weapon so they can rob his store.
The original title for this episode was "The Boondocks Infamous Halloween Special" as it was originally scheduled to air on October 29, 2005.
Gin Rummy's exchange with Officer Frank during the shootout is a reference to Lancelot and Concorde's conversation after the latter has been shot with an arrow carrying a message in Monty Python And The Holy Grail (1975)
