Shawn's father is a total disaster. I'm absolutely not for Shawn moving in with him again. I mean the guy's been gone for a year and it didn't even got the humanity visiting his own son even been a hour away from him but sent him letter instead. What kind of parent is that ? I don't care about secondly or anything over junk, I sense is gonna take off again, he did it once so what would stop him to do it again ? I mean I know that Shawn has been waiting this for a year but come one, the guy has to be begged to accept taking care of his own son and seems still not willing to, well I don't know, maybe taking a real job and giving a stable life to his son. Noo, instead they're gonna come back in the same old routine they got before meaning on a trailer park in an dangerous environment, same old same old. Oh god, I can't stand him even one inch. I'd preferred John signing the stupid papers and be his guardian than give Shawn's custody back to someone as irresponsible and unstable as his dad is. Shawn's still so blind and full of hope and expectations towards his dad that will never gonna happen, it's really getting on my nerves. I can bet a arm that all this situation will turn into a disaster soon or later and frankly I don't wanna see that. Fortunately, Eric plot was there to make me laugh a little. Edit: rewatching it for the second time, can't say my opinion have changed that much but my feeling got more conflicted towards Chet. Knowing how's things gonna turned out for him in the next seasons and everything and looking more under the line I can at least say that he doesn't think much of himself as a person in general so as a father let's not even talk about it. Having John giving him news regularly about Shawn and how he was doing during that year apart and actually realising he was doing great certainty made him realised and in a certain way convinced him that John was a better option for Shawn. He seems kind of the kind of person who's demeaning himself and doesn't deserving much in life, include being part of his son life, neither be able to give him the life he deserves which is kind of sad when you know the only thing Shawn is craving of him is his only presence on his life and nothing else, he never complained neither whined about their modest life as long as his folks are with him and taking care of him. A lot of teenagers would have acted as total spoiled brats resenting their folks fot not giving them what they would assumed they deserve as life standard... but not Shawn which is rare for a 15 years old kid plus after being enduring abandonments issue during this entire year, left out by both of his folks it's not a slight thing . What a mental he has.
