- Jason is hit in the head with a rock by an outlaw while getting a drink of water at the lake, and his horse is stolen. Upon arriving in town, he quickly learns his assaulter and thief is dead, and a man is being credited for killing Jason McCord.—Michelle
- In the voice of Jason McCord:
I was minding my own business, as usual. And as usual, it got me into trouble. I stopped by a lake to get a drink of water, and before I knew it some young man came and bashed me over the head with a rock. While I laid on the edge of the water hole unconscious, he took my horse and rode into a nearby town. He wasnt there five minutes before he got himself killed for insulting one of the girls. The man who killed him, Tuck Fraser, went out to the horse my horse to find out who he was. They found a letter addressed to me Jason McCord. They also found my broken saber.
Needless to say, Tuck was proud because he thought he had killed me, the coward of Bitter Creek. Archie Fletcher offered him a job as foreman on his ranch, telling him he wanted me dead because his son, Bobby, had been killed at Bitter Creek.
When I came to, I walked into town. I saw my pony and noticed that my saber was missing. I went straight into the saloon and demanded to know the truth. Tuck informed me then that he had killed Jason McCord. Im Jason McCord, I declared. Im not asking you. Im telling you. Give me that Saber! Then I flipped my rifle to show him I meant business. The sheriff was quick to usher me out so he could get to the truth.
He DID get to the truth. He realized I was indeed Jason McCord and let me have my things back, though he wanted to keep my rifle. I then went to see the body and we noticed he had been wearing irons he was undoubtedly an outlaw who escaped from prison.
When Fletcher found out I was still alive, he ordered Tuck to kill me if he wanted the job. Lorrie, his girl, got mad and begged me to leave town. Instead, I went to Mr. Fletcher and told him how Bobby died he died saving my life. Then I rode away to let Mr. Fletcher think on that. When I got back into town, Tuck was waiting to have some gunplay, but I refused. He thought he could kill me with his bare hands. Well, I gave him a good beating before Fletcher showed up and called off the whole thing. Amazingly enough, I think we all parted as friends when I left.
