Quotes

  • Jimmy Whitlaw : I'm not going! I don't need her anymore. This is MY land. I own it now.

Jason McCord : All right, Jimmy, you live with your land! And when the first hurt comes, you let the land hold you and comfort you. You let the land feed you and dress you. The land! Will the land love you, Jimmy? Will the land nurse your bruises? Will it mend your torn shirts? Will it listen to your problems? Son, your father was a good man. But he made a mistake in not telling you and the whole world how much Neela meant to him. Don't you make the same mistake.

  • Jason McCord : Too bad so many people are accepted for what they have, and not what they are.

  • Jason McCord : All right, Sheriff, what do you want to do from here? Put me in jail?

Townsman : [as Sheriff]  No, no. You took more than was called for. And you shot him in self defence. But a few others are itching to start on you where he left off about Bitter Creek. I wouldn't hang around here.

Jason McCord : I have no intention of hanging around. I've got business elsewhere.

  • Jason McCord : He holds the riparian rights to Sandy Creek and he owns the land where the water follows into Willow Creek.

Neela : Mr Reymer claims that land.

Jason McCord : Right now it belongs to Jimmy.

Neela : That's why they want Jimmy. They care about nothing but the water.

  • Jimmy Whitlaw : That makes me a half-breed. Even worse.

Jason McCord : Son, you're what you've always been. Your mother and father were married in an Indian village.

Jimmy Whitlaw : Because he was ashamed.

Jason McCord : Because he loved her and there was nowhere else they could be married.

  • Mayor Caleb Reymer : Get in your wagon. You're only going back to Whitelaw to get your things together. The boy will live with us now.

Peter Foley : But I wanna go home. I want to live with Neela.

Neela : You have no right to take him.

Mayor Caleb Reymer : Don't you start questioning our rights.

Hannah Reymer : I told you it was a mistake to come here. A time like this is for family and close friends.

Jason McCord : This isn't the time or place to argue.

  • Jason McCord : I'm sure Jimmy's mother will be just as generous with you.

Mayor Caleb Reymer : What do you mean?

Jason McCord : I mean it will be up to her to decide who Jimmy shares that water with.

Mayor Caleb Reymer : Yeah, yeah.

  • Jimmy Whitlaw : You gonna tell everybody?

Jason McCord : No, son, I'll leave up to you.
