Dan Tempest Holds an Auction
Prismark1030 December 2023
Gaff Guernsay is minding the Sultana. Captain Dan Tempest has gone to Charleston to sell some valuable cargo.

The law in Charleston decrees that he has to offer it to the trading company operated by Sir Charles Johnson with the aid of hic lackey Rafton.

Both men conspire to offer Tempest a low value for his goods. They claim it is a fair price.

Tempest soon learns that local farmers are also being duped by Johnson. The too have to offer their produce to the trading company first.

Johnson and Rafton are prepared to be underhanded. Anyone circumventing the rules have to deal with their enforcers.

To get round the rules, Tempest holds an auction. With a man called Knox who will buy the goods at a fair price. He will sell the goods elsewhere and then pay off the sellers.

Only Johnson is determined that will not happen.

A good story where Tempest exposes corporate skullduggery. At least Johnson was prepared to get his hands dirty and engage in swordplay with Tempest.
