The Surgeon of San Rojo
Prismark1015 July 2023
There is an outbreak of sickness in New Providence. People have come down with a fever.

Unfortunately there is no doctor about. The only one is the surgeon in the Spanish ship.

Dan Tempest pretends to be a native Indian to entice the doctor away from the ship.

Obviously Dr Francisco Gonzales is not happy with the subterfuge but his job is to heal the sick.

He discovers that there is Typhus outbreak. Caused by infected fleas that could had got it from rotting carcass somewhere.

Meanwhile sailors on the Sultana are blamed by Van Brugh's men.

Captain Tempest needs to eradicate the rotting meat much to Van Brugh's disgust.

A kind of story that chimed with improving public health in 1950s Britain. I liked how returning Dr Gonzales back to his ship was no easy task. He was in essence a prisoner of the British.
