A meeting between Buffy and Angel takes place immediately before this episode (between the Carpe Noctem (2001) and Fredless (2001)). It is the subject of Jane Espenson's Buffy/Angel comic, Reunion. Though even in the comic we don't learn what happened at their meeting.
The two illustrations on the book of art history that Tara gives Buffy and the Slayer opens randomly are the portrait of Henry VIII Tudor, king of England, by Hans Holbein the Younger, and the Ecstasy of Saint Teresa of Avila, by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Both baroque masterpieces.
The Trio's van is parked near the UC Sunnydale notice board, which Buffy and Faith fought in front of in S4's "This Year's Girl".
The title of the episode is a pun on the breakfast cereal Life.
While discussing Jonathon's use of a timeloop to torment Buffy, the trio make mention of episodes of The X-Files (1993) and Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987). They are Monday (1999) from the sixth season and Cause and Effect (1992) from the fifth season, respectively. The X-Files also featured vampires in at least two episodes, and Star Trek TNG, while not featuring them directly, exists in a universe consisting of at least a few creatures with vampire-like traits.
