Look who's walking?
Joxerlives23 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The Good; Xander and Cordy get together, inevitable really. But Willow and Oz also take their first real steps towards a relationship. The shootout at the careers fair with Jonathon held hostage for the first time. Dru torturing Angel and Angel goading Spike into almost killing him. Great fight, great final twist, the sight of an arisen Dru carrying Spike is awesome.

The Bad; If you can find some, let me know because I can't

Best line; Xander; "I am the bug man, coo-coo coo chu"

Questions and observations; Although not a Scooby yet Oz is shot, the second in a long line to be so plus Angel chained up. Buffy and Kendra torture Willy the Snitch, the Scoobs really having no problem with it. Cordy's wet dress is pretty daring not to mention Willy offering Buffy and Kendra a nude photoshoot (one day Buffy won't be so dainty) but not half as extreme as the kinkfest which is Dru and Angel (she calls him a 'bad dog' and even more disturbingly 'daddy') . Note that Dru seems to genuinely miss her family (whilst Angelus glibly killed his) implying once again that Dru and Spike are exceptional vamps with remnants of humanity (possibly due to Dru's link to the PTB?). Despite his reputation Spike meanwhile seems to have no taste for torture commenting that he'd rather just see Angel die than the pre-show. Isn't it a bit risky for Dru to have Holy Water lying around? The Dru/Spike/Angel(us) jealousy triangle rears it's ugly if fascinating head. In terms of jealousy we also have Kendra and Buffy competing for Giles' attention like two little girls with their father, it's interesting to contrast that later with Buffy and Dawn (and Faith?) vying for Joyce's affections.

For a long time I thought the police woman assassin was Pat Tallman from Babylon 5 (who's also a stuntwoman) but it's not.

If Kendra was taken from her family to be trained at an early age, why wasn't Buffy? Although you can imagine Joyce and Hank's reaction if Merrick turned up at their door and said "Hey, I need to take your little daughter away to train her to fight the powers of evil" (they'd probably call the police and/or shoot him). Kendra's Watcher is called Sam Zebuto, confirming for the first time that not all Watchers are automatically British despite the Council's full name. Don't the council think Giles' and co need to know of Kendra's existence? Willow nails her first vamp whilst Cordy helps Xander kill the bug man.

So did Kendra and Buffy dream up this plan between them all along or did Kendra follow Buffy to the church and then call all the Scoobies? Or was the argument at Willy's place all a show and the rest of the Scoobies tailed her and Willy knowing he'd lead them to Spike? So why is the contract called off? That is lame and it's the only reason the ep gets 8/10 rather than top marks. Reminds me off Star Trek;Voyager where they'd find a way to return to Earth one week only to conveniently forget about it the next

8/10 for THAT ending alone

"Don't try it Again!"
nysmbs21 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Buffy meeting another slayer was intriguing, but gets messy fast and not really in a good way. The story goes one direction (Buffy wants to quit and let this talented Slayer 2 take over!) and then without any transition whatsoever immediately jerks over in another direction (Buffy wants to prove she's better at this than Slayer 2!). There's also some weird casual racism at various points that subtracts from enjoyment of the episode.

But it's easier to complain than praise. Stronger points of the episode are the Willow getting hit on be a cute boy, Dru's revival, and above all else, Xander and Cordelia.

The chemistry between Charisma Carpenter and Nicolas Brendan had long been strong up to this point, and their personal bottle episode here culiminates in one of the funniest kissing scenes in television history. It feels weird scoring this episode so highly primarily for a comedic element, but here we are. I loved it.

Side note: Was I alone in thinking "he kind of deserves this" when Dru tortured Angel? Let's face it, he did exponentially worse to her.

The One With The Other Vampire Slayer...
taylorkingston7 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I really like this episode. It makes me laugh, it makes me worry for people, but mostly, it's just a really enjoyable time.

In this episode, we discover that Kendra, the girl that was fighting with Buffy in Part 1, isn't a vampire or demon at all, she is in fact a Vampire Slayer as well. Since Buffy died for a few minutes in the Season 1 Finale, (The Master drowned her), a new Slayer was chosen to take her place. Kendra and Buffy try to come to terms with not being the only girl in the world who has a knack for kicking vampire butt. Kendra does her job completely by the book, so she's a bit tough to handle sometimes. She's surprised that Buffy is allowed to go to school and have friends. Wow. By the end of the episode, Angel is saved from Drusilla and Spike's evil plan to kill him and for Drusilla to get her full strength back and they assumed they killed Spike. Spike isn't dead, Drusilla is somewhat stronger than she was, but not as strong as she would've been, had the ritual continued.

Overall, I give this episode a 9 out of 10.

Spike, Angel and Dru have their first scene together
katierose29518 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I love Angel, don't get me wrong, but he sure does get captured a lot here on BTVS. He does much better over on "Angel," where he's more capable and a better fighter. In "What's My Line? Part Two" and many other BTVS episodes though, his main job seem to be getting kidnapped so Buffy can save him. It's kind of unfair. Anyway, this episode picks up right where "What's My Line? Part One" left off, with Angel locked in a cage, Buffy fighting Kendra, and Spike working on the cure for Dru. This is the episode where Dru is cured, so it's pretty important. You really can't skip this episode, as Drusilla's recovery and Spike's subsequent injury are vital facets to the next part of the story arc this season.

"What's My Line? Part Two" mainly focuses on Buffy's attempts to rescues Angel. Learning that Angel's blood is the cure for Dru's illness, Spike captures him and ties him up at the factory. After Drusilla spends the afternoon torturing Angel for fun, Spike prepares them both for the healing ritual. It will probably kill Angel, of course, but Spike's certainly willing to chance it. Especially, after being reminded of the somewhat sordid past Angel and Dru share. Back at Sunnydale High, Buffy is adjusting to the idea of a second Slayer in the world. It seems that her momentary death at the hands of the Master, meant that a new Slayer was called. Buffy may not always like being the Chosen One, but she's also not happy with being half of the Chosen Two. Giles seems pleased as punch with Kendra's scholarly approach to slaying, which makes Buffy feel even worse. And when she learns that Kendra attacked Angel and now Spike has him, she's furious and sets off alone to save him. Meanwhile, Cordy and Xander are trying to adjust to their new feelings for each other. The kiss they shared in Buffy's basement has shaken them both. And Oz and Willow are growing closer. The episode ends with Angel safe, Dru cured and Spike injured... But their story's not over yet.

There's so much great stuff in this episode. I love Oz and Willow together. They each have a quirkiness about them that compliments the other perfectly. The animal cracker scene at the end of "What's My Line? Part Two" is one of the highlights of the episode. Also, anytime Spike, Dru and Angel are on screen together, I'm happy. The three of them play off each other so well and have so much history that they're just a joy to watch. And Spike's amazement when Kendra shows up at end fight is pretty funny. "Who the h*ll is this?" He's just as incredulous as Buffy was when Kendra first attacked her. Clearly, nobody told him about the second Slayer rising, either.

I do have a few complaints about the episode. First and foremost, Kendra has the most annoying accent in the history of the universe. (And she will have some serious competition for that title when the dreaded Potentials hit town in season seven.) I have nothing against the character or actress, but I literally cringe when she starts talking in that stilted dialect. Also, not to nit-pick, but I have a hard time believing that Angel couldn't escape that cage at Willy's. Just a few episodes ago, in "Lie to Me," Spike managed to breakout of a bomb-shelter. And know we're suppose to accept that Angel can't smash a little metal grate? Spike and Angel are generally portrayed as fairly evenly matched, so it seems doubtful that Angel couldn't just kick down that door and walk away before the sun came out. By season one of "Angel," he can punch his way out of a meat locker with no real difficulty. His helplessness in "What's My Line? Part Two" seems sort of contrived.

My favorite part of the episode: Jonathan's reaction to the police lady/assassin taking him hostage, shooting Oz and up trying to kill Buffy. "Was that a demonstration?"

Two slayers for the price of one
Tweekums20 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
After Kendra's claim that she is 'The Vampire Slayer' at the end of the previous episode it emerges that she was indeed telling the truth; Buffy may only have been dead for a minute after her fight with The Master but that was enough to activate a new slayer. Kendra is a very different slayer to Buffy; she devotes everything to her calling and eschews friends, family and a normal life… she also researches the various fiends she might come up against, her knowledge rivals that of Giles. That question may have been answered but Xander and Cordelia are trapped by the 'Bug Man' and Angel is about to be killed by the sunlight. It looks as though Angel about to be rescued by Willy the Snitch but it is a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire as he gives Angel to Spike so he can use him in a ritual to cure Drusilla. Meanwhile an incident brings Willow and Oz together and they have a proper conversation.

This was one of the best episodes to date; there is plenty of impressive action, especially in the final scene where Buffy and the gang rescue Angel. We also learn more about typical slayers as Kendra makes it clear that Buffy is far from typical. We are also treated to some developing romance between the characters; Willow and Oz are finally talking but most surprisingly Xander and Cordelia share a couple of passionate kisses… and only once when they are under obvious pressure. There are some mildly disturbing scenes as Drusilla enjoys torturing Angel; nothing too nasty for television of course but it does illustrate the cruelness and insanity of her character. Juliet Landau was on great form as Drusilla, Bianca Lawson also impresses as Kendra even if the makers to get her to put on a somewhat ridiculous faux-Jamaican accent! Overall this was a fine conclusion to this two-part story.

The gang find out who they are
ossie859 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Kendra's claims are found to be true, she is a slayer. Kendra then reveals that Angel is trapped near sunlight. Cordelia and Xander actually kiss in the basement. Willy saves Angel but then hands him over to Spike. Spike is going to use Angel to cure Drusilla. Buffy and Kendra then need to work together to stop the ritual.

Why It's So Good - Tensions and decisions all round. Buffy feels she might be replaced by Kenda, and is confused about how she feels about it - is that a good thing, or a bad thing? The differences between Buffy and Kendra are shown, and they both learn from each other.

Watch Out For - Another appearance by Jonathan.

Quote - "You know, art photographs. But naked. You don't have to answer right away." - Willy to Buffy and Kendra.

Assassinshave failed
Realrockerhalloween30 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The exciting conclusion picks up where Buffy takes Kendra to see Giles and find out she was for real a true slayer since the original died. Kendra comes in handy stopping the cop, interviewing Willie for info on Angel's whereabouts and taking on the outnumbered evil at the church Spike took him. I like their relationship as they draw close together, never having to be alone any more and Buffy letting her borrow clothes like BFF.

The ritual is exciting as Spike wants to make Dru into her healthy self again. Using her sire to gain strength. The church burning all around them as the heroes leave and the iconic last shot of Drusilla dragging Spike away knowing that now the power dueo are back in business. Also I kinda wonder what happened to the cop assassin since she was last seen unconscious and I don't think heroes would leave her to burn like the other monsters.

Power Melee, Twists of Fate
Aegelis14 April 2024
Loaded up like a season finale, part two culminates into a wild fight with old and new characters involved. Creeping up to the cliff of danger, suspense drives watching for what will happen next, as there is no saving the whole situation past the point of no return.

Complexity is introduced with a second slayer, where petty differences have to be brushed aside to solve a much greater problem. Acting is in usual top form, all roles are believable, but the writing takes paramount though the bobbing and weaving of the storyline. Yes, everyone wants to see action, but it is the story that has us asking for more.

Mixed Bag

I like that Angel is captured so we can finally see that dynamic between him, Spike, and Dru. I don't like gross bug man monster, and Kendra isn't my favorite character overall. The ending is fun with everyone coming together in dramatic style.
