When the two motorcycles are overtaking the single one, the side of the road is a wooded area, yet when the camera angle changes it is a construction area. The scenery continues to flip back and forth during and after the robbery from a wooded roadside to concrete walls and construction.
After the robbers finish the job robbing the motorcycle courier, the robber on the couriers left was sightly behind him and started to kick the rear tire. The camera cuts away then shows then front tire being kick.
During the pursuit of the two motorcycles, the weather on the freeway goes from clear to foggy.
When Bobby Nelson is asking for his book back from the elderly "Mrs. Cooper", the ticket he has supposedly written contains numerous errors:
It is a notice to appear for a crime, not a traffic ticket.
It is dated 9-15-1978, prior to Nelson being employed by the CHP.
The name on it while not being legible is not Cooper.
It describes the violator as a 4'-11" bald female with red eyes born July 7 sometime in the 60's, making her anywhere from 13 to 22 years of age in 1983.
It lists the vehicle as a 1978 VW sedan, while the vehicle "Mrs. Cooper" is driving is a clearly a large American sedan.
It cites California Penal Code 807666. Penal code 807 deals with magistrates, there is no section 666.
The charge listed states she was driving a stolen auto w/o registration and identification, yet Poncherello later explains it was for defective taillights.
While the entire mobile robbery scene was improbable, holding an open jewelry box at highway speeds would cause it to be blown from the hand of the thief, and the jewelry being unsecured would have fallen out.
CHP cadets are not trained to ride motorcycles. Motorcycle assignments are made after they have graduated, spent time in patrol cars, and have applied for motorcycle duty. The CHP training academy is a full-time position, and cadets are not given time off to race motorcycles. Additionally, a cadet showboating on a motorcycle during training as Bruce nelson did would be disciplined or terminated.
The robbers are shown to be riding off-road motorcycles while the courier is on a street bike. Off-road bikes are geared low for that style of riding and as such have a much lower top speed than do street bikes. The courier could have easily outrun them.
Bruce Nelson (Penhall) states cadets are allowed off Academy grounds at night but must be back by midnight. Cadets are not allowed off Academy grounds except on weekends and one night a week, but must be checked back in by midnight. Time allowed off grounds can also be restricted further.
The brown car that launches the yellow car over its top was reused from Rock Devil Rock (1982) where it was used in the exact same type of crash. The solid ramp used to launch the yellow car is visible on it through the rear window.
The same Pinto wood side station wagon that was in front of Poncherello and Nelson when they exit the freeway is shown parked on the street adjacent to the robbery victim's car as they ride up. A yellow Datsun Z-car used in the first crash is parked behind it, indicating this is where surplus traffic vehicles were parked.
During the slow-motion shot of a car flying through the air in the initial crash, it's clear that there is no driver in the airborne car.
When the "valley girls" are hitchhiking, one of them says "Like, I mean, fer sure, you know?" yet none of their mouths move. An audio mismatch with spoken dialog and no mouth movement takes place again as they are running away from the car.
Several times a character is shown as going to and from the CHP Academy to the Los Angeles area in a short period of time. In fact, the academy as it existed in 1983 (it was relocated in 1974) is about 6 hours away from Los Angeles in the Sacremento area, so a round trip would take about 12 hours.
Linahan calls in the possible 211 and that she is on the Ventura freeway, yet the road has sidewalks. There are no sidewalks on freeways.
Bruce says cadets can leave the academy as long as they are back by midnight, yet he is able to leave it during the day to go racing, then make it back as if he's on his lunch hour. He even seems to have time to change his clothes in between.
When Bobby Nelson calls in the first crash, he says roll ambulance and tow trucks instead of using the proper CHP radio codes of 11-41 and (the number required) 11-85. This mistake would be repeated in Head Over Heels (1982). Additionally, he does not give the exact location of the crash.
Sgt. Murdock is shown to be the CHP Academy motorcycle instructor, yet he wears a regular CHP uniform and shoes instead of the motorcycle officer's uniform and boots.
On the second valley girl robbery when the driver presses the switch to lock the doors, according to the switch logo he presses it to unlock the doors, yet the doors lock.
