For a moment the debate about whether the first cast was the best (yes!~) this episode shows that every now and then the writers would indulge themselves and take a sharp turn. This entire episode leads to a 30 second piece of dialog from Grissom, then credits roll.

Doctors and Nurses
Hitchcoc25 January 2021
Two people are brutally murdered in house. Grissom gets really into this case. It turns out that a nurse with promiscuity problems has been having dalliance with several doctors. As a matter of fact, it is pretty much known that she is living sort of dangerously. Unfortunately for her, the guy she is most connected to is one of the bodies. She is the other. Grissom takes on a kind of "Laura" thing, being attracted to the dead woman and her life. She also looks a lot like Sara Sidle and Grissom can't seem to pull the trigger on his feelings for her. This is one of the more realistic episodes and it is well done.

The Promiscuous Nurse
claudio_carvalho2 January 2023
The Promiscuous Nurse When the nurse Debbie Marlin is found murdered in her bathroom, the CSI team investigates the case. They learn that Debbie was a promiscuous woman that used to date doctor. Her last boyfriend Dr. Michael Clark is missing and becomes the prime suspect of murdering her. However, their further investigation finds pieces of his body in plastic bags in several trash bins in an alley. Dr. Robbins concludes that the cuts have been made by a surgeon using probably a scalpel.

"Butterflied" is a disappointing episode of "CSI" where the killer does not go to justice. The investigation of the team is great, Grissom opening his heart is unusual but the criminal leaving the precinct without punishment is not good. The real life shows that nothing happens to powerful and wealthy and it is not necessary to show the same in a fictional TV show. My vote is seven.

I was expecting more...
sloppy_tuna9 November 2019
Considering this episode is on dozens of Top Ten CSI episodes I was disappointed with the episode in it's entirety. Lots of great moments and guest stars (Dick Roman from Supernatural! That alone earned this one an extra star) but on the whole (despite the fact that I enjoyed the understated tone of Butterflied) I was still left feeling like this was one of the less stellar installments. Still not an altogether bad episode- but there a so many others that give so much more.

Grisom and Sara?
gerry-robin19 February 2022
How did anyone ever believe Grisom and Sara would ever end up together? Personally never bought it for a moment. And they continue on in the afterlife with CSI VEGAS. This story line should never have been brought to fruition. Sara is damaged goods. Grisom would never marry someone like her. Have loved this show from the beginning and have watched it over and over. Have the whole series on DVD. But NEVER and still don't believe they ended up together.

Some hints main-character-romance,

Warning: Spoilers
I often wonder if the type of murderer in CSI stories is chosen on a slightly Politically Correct basis, and this episode is a case in point - say no more. This will probably be something that I notice that others won't, but I think the mild political bias is there especially in season 3, and in 4 to some extent.

The story unfolds quite well, there's a bit of scientific interest - which I like. There's also a weird bit of chemistry and more-than-hints of romantic interest between Gris and Sara. Not sure if it works or not, but it is thankfully subtle and the CSi creators were to clever enough to not overdo this aspect of the stories

Is this a joke?

Warning: Spoilers
They find that their suspect must be a balding man due to finding traces of Propecia in the murder scene, yet they decide it's not Howard who was balding aggressively but Vincent who had full head of super thick hair with zero signs of balding at all.

Grissom even asks Catherine if Howard was balding and she says "no" even though he WAS clearly balding.

Another episode where the evidence they found didn't support the conclusion they reached, as it happens 80% of the time with this show.
