When Jamal is at Cannon's home, Cannon takes a pie out of the oven. As he takes the pie out he mentions how hot the pie is (as it should be). The first problem is that Cannon does not let the pie cool off. He begins to cut it right away. The second problem is that as hot as that pie is claimed to be, Cannon is able to cut a perfect slice for Jamal. The slice is not melted or sloppy. The third problem is that once Jamal accepts the slice on a plate, Jamal immediately begins to take a bite with a fork. Jamal does not let the slice cool off. And on top of that, Jamal shows no signs of the bite of pie burning his mouth.
There are two odd things about the felled tree in Act I. First, when Cannon inspects the tree's stump one can see that there is a smooth cut across, indicating that it had been sawed apart. But Cannon later finds the ax that was supposedly used to fell the tree, and as anyone who has used an ax before, knows it does not leave a smooth cut. Second, cutting the tree down would have produced a loud racket and Cannon and Cecilia should have heard it. Even if they were stone deaf they were so close to it they should have seen the person cutting the tree.
