And what a vacation!
gridoon20247 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The Angels and Bosley go an trip to a small town where an uncle and aunt of Kris live (he's the sheriff, she's the mayor) for a little rest and recreation. As it always happens in crime TV series in cases like this, they stumble onto trouble instead: the uncle has disappeared, the aunt looks nervous, and the entire town seems to want them to leave as soon as possible. Could all this have anything to do with the dangerous criminal who is being transported to that town while waiting for the FBI to arrive? One of the best season 3 episodes, with an effective "Ghost Town" atmosphere, a deadly shootout, an actually suspenseful climax, and some of the most unusual disguises for the Angels: they dress up as old ladies! *** out of 4.

Warning: Spoilers
The title of this episode doesn't quite do it justice. Kris visits her aunt and uncle in a small town in Arizona and for some reason she brings the other Angels and Bosley along. An even bigger mystery is why they agreed to accompany her. Kris's aunt and uncle literally live in a podunk 50 person town where there's absolutely nothing to do, so why take a vacation there?

Regardless of that, when the Angels arrive they find the town strangely deserted of women, and most of the men who remain can't answer a straight question. The reservation they had for their hotel mysteriously disappeared, and when they go to the town's only other hotel there's no vacancy. That should have been an immediate red flag for them, because how can a town with no one in it have two fully booked hotels?

No matter, it's not long before the Angels figure that something is up and they're attacked by some fake sheriff's deputies.

One of those deputies is played by Denny Miller, who previously appeared in season 2's Circus of Terror playing the knife thrower, with Kris Munroe as his lovely target. The second deputy was played by Lee Delano, who was in season 2 episode Angels on Ice playing another villain, and who also featured in the Star Trek episode A Piece of the Action, playing a gangster.

Both deputies are killed by the Angels in a shootout. By then Kris's aunt finally spills the beans as to what the hell is happening. It seems the town has been taken over by a gang of criminals hell bent on rescuing one of their own during a prisoner transfer. They've kidnapped all the women in the town, as well as the sheriff, Kris's uncle, as bargaining chips just in case things go wrong.

The climax takes place in a canyon where the hostages are being held by the rest of the gang. Actor Ron Sobel plays yet another bad guy, just as he did in season 2 opening episode, Angels in Paradise. The Angels are able to borrow some old lady clothes and dress up as grannies. This ruse allows them to take the kidnappers by surprise and win the day. Hopefully afterwards they actually got to take a real vacation, maybe go to Vegas next time.
