This episode was a "back door pilot" for a spin-off series called "Toni's Boys", which would have been a male version of "Charlie's Angels". Had the episode garnered high ratings and/or sparked interest to executives of the network, then a green light could have been given to go ahead with plans for a series.
This edition marks David Doyle's briefest appearance of all episodes; he appears for less than a minute.
Barbara Stanwyck's character is called "Toni Blake". In 1973, Bill Bixby had starred as Tony Blake in The Magician (1973). a little-known TV series, from which Charlie's Angels has repeatedly borrowed. The coincidence doesn't end at the name. When her "boys" are first introduced, one offers the angels white wine. One of Tony Blake's main profile characteristics was that he only drank white wine. Indeed, in the end tag of this title, the angels and Toni's boys alike are toasting with white wine. Perhaps this was Aaron Spelling subtle way of "rendering to Caesar" and giving credit of sorts, where he had never attributed it before.
This is the only time in the entire series, when an angel has kissed another one on the cheek, as greeting. Strangely, it is Kelly kissing Tiffany, to wish her a happy birthday. As can be observed in many scenes throughout season 4, Jaclyn Smith never warmed up to Shelly hack because she had campaigned for one of her friends to be cast as Tiffany.
