Ladywolf
claudio_carvalho4 April 2007
Piper has doubts whether she ought to marry Leo or not, when the Halliwell sisters meet the stranger Christopher that becomes an owl by night whilst his lover Brookes takes the form of a wolf by day. Brooke explains that her boss was a sorcerer demon that cursed the couple of lovers because he wanted her for him. While the sisters try to break the spell, they believe that during an eclipse, Leo and Piper could get married without The Powers That Be finding out. But the Evil Triad is aware of their intentions.

In spite of being a rip-off of "Ladyhawke", "Magic Hour" is a good episode of "Charmed". The role of Cole Turner in the series is disclosed, and together with the participation of Penny 'Grams' Halliwell and the mysterious fate of Leo, will certainly improve the next shows. My vote is eight.

Finding the loophole
owlaurence8 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This is an excellent episode which manages to combine many different elements into a really tight plot. The young couple's ordeal, inspired by a lesser-known fairytale, rings a bell while remaining fresh. It also makes for a few beautiful scenes with the owl and the wolf.

But a hallmark of any good Charmed episode is that it echoes with the sisters' personal lives. The parallel with Piper and Leo's forbidden love is obvious, so it is no surprise that the same magical loophole should hold the key to both plots. By the way, unusual cosmic phenomena seem to greet every significant moment of Piper and Leo's life (watch The Day The Magic Died), as if the whole universe conspired to make them a couple against all odds. Their love feels so inevitable that the tragic last-minute twist really comes as a shocker. The Elders definitely become the enemy, which puts the sisters in an awkward position since they technically embody Good.

Another significant point is the ongoing subplot with the mysterious Cole. I love how subtly he is being eased into the main story, leaving ample room for conjecture and providing a lot of great little scenes in the meantime: having Leo's goodness literally rub off on him like a stain is hilarious, and the living shadow is quite intriguing. There is also a fitting parallel with the sorcerer. Both men are well-integrated, successful individuals who work the system from within, which is a refreshing take on evil. However, I regret that the sorcerer, while pledging his love to Brooke, acts so business-like about it. Even though this is consistent with his character, it makes it a bit difficult to understand why he ends up being literally consumed by jealousy, and it also suggest that demons cannot feel love --a tenet Cole is about to shake to the ground.

The One Where The Man Turns Into An Owl...
taylorkingston8 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I really like this episode, it's so interesting.

In this episode, Piper and Leo planned to get married, without the people "up there" finding out. So they have to find a way to do it without getting caught. Meanwhile, an owl shows up at the Halliwell's front door, and then he turns into a man. This man was cursed to spend the day as an owl, and the night as a man. His girlfriend was also cursed, to be a wolf at night, and a woman during the day. This is because, their evil boss, fell for Brooke (the wolf-girl) and said, if he can't have her, no one can. They need the help of the Halliwell's to get rid of the curse. The only problem is, the only way to break the curse is if Brooke gives herself over to the boss, or until a night within a day. When the man, in owl form, gets shot with an arrow, Brooke gives herself to her ex-boss. But then there is a solar eclipse. A night within a day. They also realize, that Piper and Leo can get married because if people can't look up, then they can't look down. They hurry to save Brooke before she kisses her boss, and they succeed. Brooke and Christopher (the owl- man) kiss and that somehow vanquishes the evil boss. Everyone rushes home for Piper and Leo's wedding and just as they are about to say "I do", Leo is pulled away, supposedly by the Elders. Who else would it be. This devastates Piper, understandably.

Overall, I give this episode an 8 out of 10.

Complete ripoff of Ladyhawke!!!!
Wikkid_Gamez20 April 2019
Even some of the phrases word for word are taken from that movie and the plot right down to the bird being shot by an arrow and waiting till night (human form) to remove it and the eclipse being the answer to ending the curse, all they did was make the woman the wolf by night instead of the man and made the man and owl by day instead of the woman being a hawk by day. Almost a complete rip off of the 1985 movie Ladyhawke staring a young (and hot!) Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfeiffer and a very young Matthew Broderick ( a year before Ferris Bueller's Day Off ) .... Excellent movie, one of my favorites growing up that unfortunately doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I can't believe no one else has caught this similarity and posted about it yet!

A story about two lovers
Realrockerhalloween9 September 2016
Not one of my favorite episodes. The cursed two lovers and the evil villain take center stage. Christopher and Brooke are a young, beautiful couple yet they are bland from their look, mannerism and the story isn't interesting. Boss isn't fully fleshed out on who or what he is and comes off as goofy. He doesn't leave a lasting impression and before you know it his chapter concludes. My main interest mostly stayed on the sisters or Cole whenever they appeared. I like how selfless they've become and their caring nature. Isn't that what a hero is suppose to be? They finally found a niche that works and have grown close together instead of torn apart by circumstances beyond their control.

I can see why it was created to parallel what is going on in the sisters lives, but it didn't work for me and has been done better before. I really went in with an open mind and felt bored the entire time.
