The Cheers gang takes on rival bar owner Gary, in his second appearance, who is this time played by Robert Desiderio. It's no surprise that Gary wins when the gang gets paranoid and inadvertently chases Red Sox legend Wade Boggs out of the bar.
Over-the-top visuals abound: Carla as cat burglar, shortened stools, Norm & Cliff's poetry show and an office full of bleating sheep. This is the kind of broad, goofy episode that was abundant in Season Six. This episode- and Season Four's "From Beer To Eternity"- set up the "Bar Wars" series that would yield another six episodes.
The Cheers writers were learning that any reference to the absent Diane would be greeted with a knowing laugh from the audience, and there would be many more to come. A good fun episode, but not for your dollar-grubbing, front-office, kissy-face reasons.
