This represents the last appearance of Jay Thomas as Eddie LeBec. Shortly after filming this, Thomas, who also had a talk radio show in Los Angeles, made fun of Rhea Perlman's looks. She heard the broadcast and had him fired from Cheers.
Ann Morgan Guilbert makes a guest appearance in the cold opening as Marge Thornhill who used to give Sam Malone grief from the stands during his career as a pitcher. She's best known for two roles including Millie Helper on The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961-1966) and as Yetta Rosenberg on The Nanny (1993-1999).
It is unusual for an NBA game played in an Eastern Time Zone city to end after midnight Boston time, but it does happen on very rare occasions when nationally televised games begin later to accommodate the TV networks or in some cases the games can go to multiple overtimes.
The title is a take on the jazz standard "Call Me Irresponsible", written in 1962 by Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen. It was introduced in the film Papa's Delicate Condition (1963), sung by Jackie Gleason, for which it won an Oscar for Best Original Song. It was also a hit for Frank Sinatra in 1964.
