- Diane develops an allergy believing it's Frasier's dog after they move in together, but Sam and Frasier know her allergies are psychosomatic. Meanwhile, the guys at the bar shower Carla with a series of gag birthday gifts.
- Nervous because they think he still has feelings for her, Diane and Frasier tell Sam that they are moving in together. Sam is happy for them, as happy as he can be for Diane and Frasier. But in a private discussion between Sam and Diane, each has an underlying but unspoken air of apprehension about this move. After Diane moves in with Frasier, she develops a constant tickle in her throat and sneezing fits which she attributes to being an allergic reaction to Frasier's dog, Pavlov. Sam thinks her symptoms are psychosomatic, masking a reality of not wanting to live with Frasier. When Sam agrees to take Pavlov after Frasier offers to give her up for Diane, Diane seems somewhat annoyed. After Pavlov leaves the Crane-Chambers household, Diane develops another symptom in addition to the tickle and the sneezing, that of a "voice change". This added symptom is also despite the house being fumigated, the upholstery changed, and the wallpaper stripped. Finally Frasier is fed up, and faces the reality that Diane's symptoms are indeed psychosomatic. Only a miracle, or perhaps a misunderstanding, can get Diane over her symptoms. Elsewhere in the bar, it's Carla's birthday, and the course for such is a series of gag gifts. Although not unexpected, Carla is hurt. Sensing Carla's pain, the guys decide that it might be a nice gesture to get her a "sincere" gift, which Cliff offers to go out and buy. But how sincere can the gift be seeing that it was purchased by Cliff?—Huggo
- It's Carla's Birthday, and almost everyone has gotten her a gift. There's just one catch: almost every single one is a gag-gift. Even Diane and Frasier get in on the act, and give Carla a set of gag wine-glasses.
Also during this time, Frasier and Diane announce to Sam that Diane will be moving into Frasier's place. A few days later, Diane comes into work, appearing to have developed a strange tickle in her throat, and sneezing. Diane figures it is Frasier's dog Pavlov that is causing her allergies to flare up. Sam offers to take Pavlov off Frasier and Diane's hands, and they agree. However, Frasier become a bit peeved when he finds out that Sam has renamed Pavlov, "Diane."
A few days later, even though "Diane" has been removed from the premises, Diane is still sneezing. She has even developed a strange vocal reaction in which her voice suddenly pitches up into higher octaves. Frasier soon has had enough, and claims that the reason for Diane's reaction is because she is most likely not ready for this step in their relationship.
Diane goes to the bathroom to freshen up, and Frasier soon asks for "Diane" back. Sam claims that he rather enjoys "Diane's" company, and Frasier goes on a tirade, claiming that he loves her, and needs her. Unseen by the two, Diane has overheard this, and believes that Frasier is talking about her.
Sam intends to tell what they were discussing when Frasier stops him. It is then that both Frasier and Diane decide to attend an Akira Kurosawa film festival. As they leave, Norm notes to Sam that Frasier gets to go home with Diane, and he (Sam) has to go home to a dog. Sam just smiles, admitting good fortune is on his side.
