Little Carla, Happy at Last: Part 2 (#6.4)

Warning: Spoilers
Sam tries to convince Eddie to go against his mother's will and marry Carla. He does it by getting Carla into her wedding dress and they are off to church. But they get married at 4:01 which goes against one of their superstitions and are upset during the whole wedding. And then Eddie gets a call that he is out of the team, but this just makes Carla think that all the bad luck they got was not because of superstitions.

The second part of this episode is not as good as the first one. The writing is a bit of lower quality than usual, as it makes no sense how Eddie is so easily convinced, the whole mother thing is dealt with too fast and almost as forgotten. Also the whole ending doesn't go well with Carla's character as we are used to. But at least they are married and as I said that can be good for the show. And it had some good moments. Mainly with drunk Rebecca talking about Sam's looks.

Glad It's Over

This whole superstition thing is very tiresome as we head into the second episode. We can predict that there will be more pitfalls. I just didn't like the chemistry here and I find Carla sort of tiresome at times. She is best when Cliff makes some smug remark and she nails him. I waiting to work my way into the second coming of Cheers.

Very Strange...

Warning: Spoilers
Part II of a dreadful two-parter... I've seen this episode 37 times and I still can't tell you why Eddie suddenly stops caring about his Mother's objections. Did she die between episodes? Did Eddie have her whacked?

Carla, furious and violent over the wedding cancellation, holes up in Rebecca's office and expresses her rage by breaking pencils. Yeah, pretty lame. And Sam fixes the entire relationship by getting Carla to try on her maternity/wedding gown. But what's really bizarre about this episode is the actual wedding: it's filmed in a church rectory crowded with extras, and we don't see the faces of the bride, groom or any of the other leads supposedly in attendance... we just hear them speaking in unfunny voice-overs. It's a very unusual choice for master of comedy direction James Burrows and, simply put, it doesn't work.

The reception at the bar features a Master of Ceremonies who announces everything that the writers couldn't explain: "Let's all throw some rice, the symbol of fertility..." The best part of this episode is the drunken Rebecca, and her funniest moment is the look on her face after she hears Carla's daughter-in-law say: "Darling, you're married now. You don't have a lap."

Eddie loses his job as goalie and Carla returns to work at Cheers, married for some reason. I want my hour back.
