Kirstie Alley co-starred in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), while Kelsey Grammar and Bebe Neuwirth each made guest appearances on Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987). Ted Danson at the time was dating Whoopi Goldberg, who played a recurring role on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Danson would also later marry Mary Steenburgen, whose ex-husband Malcolm McDowell co-starred in Star Trek: Generations (1994) and was an uncle of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) cast member Alexander Siddig. In addition, Norm inspired a nonspeaking background character named Morn on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
