Cheyenne gets involved in a dispute over a dead "hero's" reputation. It seems the citizens of Clairmont have erected a statue to the memory of Col. Charles DeVier, who legend has it was tortured to death by Comanches. However, it turns out that two prospectors have found the colonel's body which they return to the Army fort. The Army doctor confirms the body is that of DeVier and that he was shot in the head with new bullets that only the Army had. At the same time the body is returned, Capt. Robert Holman (who reported DeVier's bravery) is marrying DeVier's sister Madaline. Holman was the only survivor as the rest of the troop was massacred. When a Sergeant comes after Homan at the wedding, Holman runs away to Mexico. Cheyenne, who knew Holman earlier, is hired to enter Mexico to bring him back. Although the Army is convinced Holman shot DeVier, Cheyenne is not so sure and decides to find the truth, but finds someone is trying to stop him.
