The play being performed by the theater company, "The Marble Heart," was an actual work by 19th-century playwright, Charles Selby. It was staged at Ford's Theater in Washington D.C. in 1863. President and Mrs. Lincoln attended one performance. The play's lead role was acted by a rising young star in the theater named John Wilkes Booth.
The teleplay was written by James OHanlon, however it is based on an original 13-page short story entitled Nightfall, by Donald R. Wilson. Nightfall was also the working title during the production of this episode.
Clint Walker did his own singing. He even recorded an album called "Inspiration."
