After seeing nearly every episode of "Cimarron Strip", I can understand why the show only lasted a single season. It was up against some top show and the supporting characters were some of the worst I have ever seen. MacGregor is a deputy who ALWAYS seems to screw up and is less helpful than Pee-Wee Herman to the Marshall. Francis seems like a nice person but never had any real personality written for him. And, finally, Dulcey...ugh. I feel sorry for the actress as I watched the shows because the writers simply screwed up her character...making her really, really annoying. All too often, she is all emotion and does a LOT to help various villains because she feels sorry for them! In "Big Jessie", she's up to her antics again, as she agrees to convey a message by telegraph to a prisoner's family...without telling the Marshall. And, as you'd expect, the message is in code and tells his gang where to find him as the Marshall escorts him to another town! Dulcey, Dulcey, Dulcey!!!
Not surprisingly, the Marshall is jumped and he loses his prisoner. To make things worse, he also loses his badge and heads to the next town....which turns out poorly as the town has no law and the locals are lynch-happy! The Marshall bears a resemblance to a murderer...one of the same men that jumped Marshall Crown. So, now not only is the town after him, but the evil gang AND a bounty hunter (Jack Elam) who are all convinced Crown needs to die!!
The plot here isn't bad at all. After al, back in the day, mixups could easily have happened since they didn't have telephones, radios or TV! But the Dulcey angle bothered me...as it's at least the 5th or 6th time in the series she really screwed up and made the Marshall's job a lot tougher! Only three more episodes left to watch...let's hope none of them are ruined by Dulcey's antics.
