It's winter quarters for the circus and Joey is trying to catch up with the washing and then Corky shows up and another problem. Mrs. Larson suggests Joey get a wife. Corky takes the comment literally and Pete sends off for his sister. Pete is trying his best to sell his sister to Joey but Joey isn't biting.
When Joey is off with Corky, Joey tries to sound out Corky on the idea of a mother, a boy shows up walking along a fence. Before you know it, they're playing on an old wagon that crashes into a house. Both Sid and Corky are fine until Sid's mother comes out and makes a fuss over him. Joey begins to think Corky needs a mother which is enough to give Joey nightmares.
Pete's sister arrives and she is as big as a house. No, she's Emma the fat lady. Susie is the very attractive one who was behind Emma. Susie and Joey are hitting it off, and Susie is planning on getting married but not to Joey.
Susie is not pleased with Joey's wagon; it's messy and it stinks. When Joey gets back to the wagon, Corky has straightened it up. Joey is doing this for Corky because he wants a mother. He doesn't, Corky thought Joey wanted a wife. Both have a laugh but what to do with Susie. Joey figures he better discourage Susie. No luck, Susie likes Joey as he is.
Maybe they can scare her with Jackie the lion. No luck. Joey decides he better tell Pete the wedding is off. Before he can do so he meets Susie's fiancé and is happy. Pete feels terrible and Joey decides to take advantage of Pet's guilt by having him do his and Corky's laundry.
