Big Tim is served a paper evicting the circus from their leased property. Mayor Archer is blackmailing the editor of the town paper, Frank Dillard, by threatening to keep advertising away. Not knowing this, Corky applies to be a reporter on circus affairs. Well, if Corky wants to be a reporter he has to be honest and impartial in what he writes and be sure he tells the truth.

Bill Logan, a local lawyer, is running for mayor. Logan claims the current mayor has a corrupt administration and he isn't being allowed to wage an honest campaign. Biggest problem is he only has one day left before the election. Will all these desperate items fit together?

Corky is trying to be a reporter and Jill, Dillard's daughter is trying to help. She hears Big Tim accuse her father of not running an honest newspaper. She is shocked to find out her father is running a crooked paper and that he isn't honest.

That evening, Helen Dillard goes to see her husband. When he says he has changed his mind, he is going to write an honest editorial. No more will he give in to the mayor. His wife is happy because now he sounds like the man she married.

The mayor stops by in the morning to give Dillard his editorial. Dillard says he is going to expose the mayor and his illegal activates. Corky and Jill come across some surveyors who say they are preparing the land for a dam. But the land is that the circus holds and that land has a multi-year lease. Tim goes in to see what's going on. Meantime, the mayor has sent his bully boys over to destroy the newspaper office before they can publish their editorial.

Corky remembers the circus has a small press they use for handbills. Dillard can at least run off some handbills with the real story of what Archer has been doing to defraud the people. The circus people help get the handbills out to the voters. It's election night and the ballots are in, Bill Logan is the new mayor and the new mayor has issued arrest warrants for his predecessor.
